We are looking for students, ideally juniors/seniors, from different backgrounds: Communications, Graphic Design, Latino Studies, Marketing, Spanish and Film. Must be fluent in Spanish. Candidates must submit a resume and cover letter; graphic design applicants must submit their portfolio. This internship requires a commitment of at least 16 hours a week. This is an unpaid internship, but can earn course credit.
Job Description
We are seeking a Graphic Design/Social Media Intern for the 36th Chicago Latino Film Festival. The ideal candidate will have a unique, hands-on design experience developing and creating visual designs and content for our social media channels. They will work closely with our Social Media Team and Media Relations Coordinator.
Key Skills and Qualifications:
- Proficient with Adobe Creative Suite: Illustrator, Photoshop, InDesign, file conversions and image manipulation
- Either working towards a graphic design degree or have prior relevant experience
- Experience with brand and content creation on social media channels (Facebook, Instagram, Twitter)
- Strong eye for layout, typography, and current design trends
- Must have a personal laptop with necessary design tools
- Ability to work on several projects at once and meet strict deadlines
- Knowledge of Latino culture, or demonstrated ability to learn and synthesize new information quickly
- Interest in and desire to learn more about nonprofit communications
- Energetic, flexible, collaborative, and proactive attitude
Duties include:
- Understanding the Festival’s branding guidelines, look and feel, and goals for visual communications products
- Ensuring creative alignment with branding and marketing strategies through the design
- Brainstorming concepts, organizing information, and approaching projects with basic marketing fundamentals in mind
- Receiving and processing film files (hard drives, digital files, Blu-Rays)
- Assisting in creating projection files (DCPs)
- Assisting in testing films for projection
- Shipping film drives
- Organizing screening schedule and projection details
- Revising print materials
- Possible help with managing hospitality logistics for visiting filmmakers
- Fluent in Spanish and English (extra bonus if you speak Portuguese)
- Proficient with Google Drive
- Highly detail oriented
- Passionate about film, film festivals, Latinx art and culture
- Background in film production or analysis
- Good work ethic, proactive, able to meet deadlines
- Collaborative, communicative, and energetic attitude
