This series offers a broad overview of Latino music, from the Spanish Medieval period to the music being written today in all genres and styles (classical, folk, Afro-Latino, Latin Jazz, etc.).

Voces de mujeres: Latin American and Iberian Art Songs by Women Composers

SEPTEMBER 15, 16, 17

A Journey to discover songs created by women composers from Argentina, Brasil, Colombia, Cuba, Catalunya and Mexico. Together with Patricia Caicedo, a leading performer of the Latin American and Iberian art song, we will have the opportunity to discover the compositions of women composers from Argentina, Brasil, Catalunya, Colombia, Cuba, and Mexico. Songs full of passion, sensibility and tenderness written on texts of some of the most renowned poets of the Spanish, Portuguese and Catalan languages.

Un viaje para descubrir canciones creadas por mujeres compositoras de Argentina, Brasil, Colombia, Cuba, Catalunya y México. Junto a Patricia Caicedo, destacada intérprete de la canción artística latinoamericana e ibérica, tendremos la oportunidad de descubrir las composiciones de compositoras de Argentina, Brasil, Catalunya, Colombia, Cuba y México. Canciones llenas de pasión, sensibilidad y ternura escritas sobre textos de algunos de los poetas más reconocidos de las lenguas castellana, portuguesa y catalana.

PATRICIA CAICEDO – SOPRANO

Patricia Caicedo is a soprano and musicologist whose scholarship and performances center on Latin American art and Iberian art songs.

She is has performed all over the world in addition to founding and directing the Barcelona Festival of Song, which focuses on the performance and study of Latin American and Iberian art songs. Patricia holds a Ph.D. in musicology from the Universidad Complutense de Madrid and a Medical Doctor´s degree from the Escuela Colombiana de Medicina. She is a Board Member of the International Music Council.

NIKOS STAVLAS – PIANO

Greek pianist Nikos Stavlas studied at the Music School of his hometown, Serres, at the National Conservatory of Thessaloniki, at the University of Macedonia, Thessaloniki, and at the Royal College of Music. He holds a PhD from Goldsmiths, University of London.

Nikos currently teaches at Morley College and City Lit in London, where he leads weekly masterclasses for advanced pianists. He is in high demand as accompanist for institutions such as the Royal College of Music and the Royal Opera House, and since 2014 he is the principal accompanist of the Barcelona Festival of Song.
