Three women in their late sixties and early seventies — Ana, Patricia, and Mayela — came of age in an era when sexuality was never discussed. Now they finally say it all out loud. Their memories, secrets, and desires are woven together and given voice through the body of a fourth woman, in a film that won the Panorama Audience Award at the Berlin International Film Festival. Winner and honoree at the Chicago Latino Film Festival, this screening is your encore chance to catch it on the big screen.

About the Reel Film Club

The Reel Film Club of Chicago is a monthly series presented by the International Latino Cultural Center of Chicago (ILCC), the organization behind the Chicago Latino Film Festival. It runs the last Tuesday of every month (excluding December) at Facets.

Reception at 6pm, with food themed to the film’s country of origin, included in the price of your ticket. A cash bar is available throughout the night.

Doors open at 6:00pm – Screening at 7pm with Q&A after film.

Post-film Q&A led by film critic Alejandro Riera.

Getting to Facets

Facets is located at 1517 W Fullerton Ave, in Lincoln Park, and is easy to reach without a car.

CTA Train: Fullerton station (Red, Brown, and Purple Lines) is about 0.7 miles away, roughly a 15-minute walk or a short bus ride east on Fullerton.

CTA Bus: The #74 Fullerton bus stops right outside, at Fullerton and Greenview. The #9 Ashland and #X9 Ashland Express stop nearby at Ashland and Fullerton, about 500 feet from the venue.

Divvy: A Divvy bike station is located near the venue for those biking in.

Parking: Free street parking is available on side streets near Facets, including Greenview Ave and Bosworth Ave, about half a block away. Metered and SpotHero paid parking options are also available within a few blocks.

$20 general admission, $15 for ILCC members. Tickets include the reception; cash bar available.

Structured in five musical “chapters” and threaded with spoken excerpts from the original libretto, the program traces the arc of the myth: the couple’s blossoming romance, Mars’s jealous campaign to destroy it, and the lovers’ tragic end. The result is a seamless curation of Baroque repertoire spanning Europe and Latin America, weighted toward Spanish and Latin American composers and works inspired by the Venus and Adonis legend — among them Torrejón y Velasco, Roque Jacinto de Chavarría, Juan de Araujo, Handel, John Blow, and Alessandro Scarlatti.

It’s a signature example of Relic’s narrative-driven programming, the approach that has built the ensemble’s growing national reputation since its founding in 2022 — uniting historical insight with theatrical, emotionally direct storytelling for audiences new to early music and longtime devotees alike.
