LATINO MUSIC SERIES

This series offers a broad overview of Latino music, from the Spanish Medieval period to the music being written today in all genres and styles (classical, folk, Afro-Latino, Latin Jazz, etc.).

The Cantes de Ida y Vuelta -round trip cantes- are flamenco styles, which have their origin in Latin American popular music; they reflect the continuing exchanges and mutual cultural enrichment between America and the Iberian Peninsula. Together with flamenco guitarist Manuel Castilla, Alba Guerrero seeks to homage her father, a definitive force to develop her outstanding career in music.


ALBA GUERRERO

Flamenco singer born in Huelva and settled in Barcelona, Alba received her bachelors and masters degrees at the ESMUC. At her beginnings, she performed at tablaos like El Cordobés, Tablao de Carmen or Tarantos in Barcelona. Currently, she alternates his commitments as a soloist at prestigious international festivals with appearances such as the one made in the film-concert Blancanieves by Pablo Berger together with guitarist Chicuelo. She started composing in 2010 with the premiere of 7 dias at the DeCajón Festival!. Some of her compositions include the shows Un secreto a voces, Polifonía jonda y Pa’mi Manuela. Her first album Seda y Esparto was named one of the ten best flamenco albums of 2015. Her work is based on three aspects: has experience as an interpreter, research and teaching of flamenco. She is the author of Método de Cante Flamenco Global, the first method for the teaching of flamenco.

MANUEL CASTiLLA, guitar

Born in Barcelona, Manuel is the son of a flamenco singer. He started playing the guitar at an early age in the flamenco clubs of Barcelona. He won the First Prize and Buleria Prize in the National Flamenco Guitar Contest Ciudad de Hospitalet. For ten years, he has been a guitarist at the Tablao El Cordobés in Barcelona, performing with renowned flamenco stars like Pedro Córdoba, El Toleo and Javier Latorre. For seven years, he accompanied the great flamenco singer Parrita. He has worked for three seasons at the Tablao El Flamenco de Tokyo in Japan with dancers like Shoji Kojima. Manuel has performed in Spain, Japan, Germany, and Venezuela.
