Chicago’s Latino film community has a standing date on the last Tuesday of every month, and this August it’s a big one. Reel Film Club returns to Facets Multimedia with Aún es de Noche en Caracas (It Would Be Night in Caracas), the acclaimed Venezuelan drama that premiered at the 2025 Venice International Film Festival and has been collecting honors on the festival circuit ever since — including a Special Jury Prize at the Huelva Latin American Film Festival and a Special Mention of the Ibero-American Award at Palm Springs. The film premiered in Chicago at the Chicago Latino Film Festival in April and was selected as the Audience Choice Award for Feature Film.

This is a unique opportunity to enjoy and share Latino cinema right here in Chicago: come for the food, stay for the movie, and stick around after to talk through the themes with fellow film lovers. Reel Film Club nights are built for exactly that — a shared meal, a great film, and a real conversation about what it means.

About the Film

Directed by Mariana Rondón and Marité Ugás and adapted from Karina Sainz Borgo’s acclaimed novel La hija de la española, Aún es de Noche en Caracas stars Natalia Reyes and Edgar Ramírez (who also produces, in his first credit behind the camera). Set in a Caracas gripped by political and social collapse in 2017, the film follows Adelaida, a woman who returns home from her mother’s funeral to find her apartment seized by an armed militia. To survive, she is forced into a claustrophobic spiral of fear and reinvention — ultimately giving up her own identity to become someone else entirely.

The Evening

As always with Reel Film Club, the night starts with food. Doors open at 6 PM for a reception with appetizers inspired by the film’s country of origin — this month, a taste of Venezuela — before the screening begins promptly at 7 PM. Once the credits roll, stay for a moderated Q&A and discussion digging into the film’s themes: memory, survival, and what it costs to hold onto — or let go of — who you are.

Getting to Facets

Facets Multimedia is at 1517 W Fullerton Ave in Lincoln Park, and it’s easy to reach without a car:

Bus: The #74 Fullerton bus stops right outside, about 200 feet away at Fullerton & Greenview. The #9 Ashland and #X9 Ashland Express stop about 500 feet away at Ashland & Fullerton.
Train: The Fullerton station (Red, Brown, and weekday-rush Purple Express Lines) connects directly via the #74 bus.
Bike: Divvy bike-share docks are nearby.
Parking: Free street parking can be found on nearby side streets, including Greenview Ave and Bosworth Ave, about a half block from the theater.

Some of the events at the ILCC are FREE to attend, in some cases we ask for a suggested donation. In all instances we require you still reserve your tickets as space in some venues is limited.
