Get ready, Chicago music lovers! The Windy City is about to welcome back one of Latin America’s most electrifying musical acts. On Tuesday, July 16th, 2024, the International Latino Cultural Center of Chicago (ILCC) and Torito Arts NFP are proud to present Pascuala Ilabaca & Fauna at Reggies Chicago.
You can listen to our Podcast episode of HablArte! where we connect with Pascuala and share an interview that explains some of her creative processes, things she likes about Chicago and of course all you need to know about her upcoming concert here in Chicago.
A Rising Star Returns
Pascuala Ilabaca, the Chilean singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist, has been making waves in the Latin American and World Music scenes for over a decade. With seven albums under her belt and multiple world tours, Ilabaca has established herself as a unique and treasured voice in the industry.
Chicago audiences will remember Ilabaca’s captivating debut at Martyrs in 2022 and her encore performance at City Winery in 2023. Now, she’s back with her potent band Fauna, ready to enchant us once again with her flamboyant and mesmerizing performance style.
Accolades and Achievements
Ilabaca’s talent hasn’t gone unnoticed in her home country. She clinched Chile’s 2016 Pulsar Music Award and is a 2024 nominee for Best Singer-Songwriter. Her influence extends beyond the music scene – she performed at the closing ceremony of the 2023 PanAmerican Games and participated in a historic ceremony at the presidential palace in Santiago, marking 50 years since the 1973 coup.
‘Porteña’: A Love Letter to Valparaiso
Ilabaca’s latest album, ‘Porteña’, is a vibrant homage to her hometown of Valparaiso, UNESCO’s recognized “Music City” of Chile. The album beautifully captures the rich fusion of South American styles born from the cultural melting pot of this historic port city. ‘Porteña’ doesn’t shy away from current social and political themes, showcasing Ilabaca’s depth as an artist and storyteller.
Opening Act: Oveja Negra
The night kicks off with Chicago’s own Oveja Negra, a PunkSteady band that blends Afro-Caribbean rhythms with raw punk energy. Fresh off their recent release ‘Let ’em Play’, this homegrown group promises to set the stage alight with their unique sound.
