Get ready for the return of Pascuala Ilabaca & Fauna with local Latin favorite Oveja Negra on Tuesday July 16th at Reggies Chicago, 2105 S. State Street. Presented by The International Latino Cultural Center of Chicago (ILCC), as part of their year-round Latino Music Series, in partnership with Torito Arts NFP, the 21+ concert will start at 8:00 pm with an opening set by Oveja Negra. Doors open at 7:00 pm. Tickets are: $20 ILCC members, $25 in advance and $30 at the door.
About the Artist
Hailing from Valparaiso, Chile, singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist Pascuala Ilabaca is a unique and treasured voice in both the Latin American and World Music scenes. In little over a decade, she has released seven albums and performed on multiple world tours. Pascuala returns to the Windy City after her Chicago debut in 2022 at Martyrs through the ILCC and a subsequent performance at the City Winery in 2023. She is known for her flamboyant and captivating performances along with her potent band Fauna.
Pascuala is a winner of Chile’s 2016 Pulsar Music Awards as well as a Pulsar 2024 nominee for Best Singer Songwriter; handed out by the Sociedad Chilena de Derecho de Autor, the annual awards recognize the best in Chilean music releases. She also performed at the closing ceremony of the PanAmerican Games in 2023 and at the official ceremony at the presidential palace in Santiago de Chile marking 50 years since the 1973 coup.
Pascuala is promoting her most recent and 7th album Porteña, an homage to her home town of Valparaiso, recognized as the “Music City” of Chile by UNESCO and the birthplace of many of Chile’s most celebrated artists. The album features a rich fusion of South American styles associated with the confluence of cultures that arise in port cities such as Valparaiso. The album engages a number of current social and political themes.
Opening act Oveja Negra is a PunkSteady band, blending Afro-Caribbean rhythms with the raw intensity of punk. The group was born on the tough streets of Chicago in 2018 and is celebrating their recent release Let ‘em Play.
