Pipo Romero is a truly unique guitarist from Cádiz, Spain. He composes and performs on a steel-string acoustic guitar instead of the common nylon-string guitar, producing an entirely original guitar sound. Dubbed “Spanish Acoustic Fingerstyle” by critics, Pipo has established himself as a true virtuoso whose compositions weave together diverse influences from Folk, Flamenco, Celtic, and classical music, creating a rich and emotional experience that transcends cultural boundaries while remaining steeped in the sounds of his native Andalucia.

Pipo has garnered significant international attention with four acclaimed albums and tours throughout Spain, Canada, USA, Italy, Portugal, Hungary, Korea, Taiwan, and China. In the US, he has performed at SXSW (2019), Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center and other notable venues. His music has appeared on multiple world music and international charts, and most recently, he composed and performed music for Berlin, the prequel to Netflix’s blockbuster series Money Heist.
In his first Chicago appearance, Pipo Romero will perform a solo concert to kick off a month of programming within the 2025 Chicago Flamenco Festival in the beautiful, state-of-the-art theater at the Instituto Cervantes as part of a larger US tour. His program will showcase a rich mix of flamenco, Spanish classical and other Spanish styles, along with Latin American genres from Mexico to Argentina.
