The last day of the Chicago Latino Dance Festival will be held at the Ruth Page Center for the Arts. On stage you will find modern dance interpretations from different cultural perspectives. Dancers representing Brazil, Puerto Rico, Ecuador and Spain will bring their best on this closing day of the Chicago Latino Dance Festival.

The Chicago Latino Dance Festival is produced and promoted by the International Latino Cultural Center of Chicago, it’s ongoing calendar of events offers high quality music, dance, film and culinary arts events that are both affordable and accessible. CLDF is a free program, open to the general public, a suggested donation of $10 helps us produce these types of events throughout Chicago.

Event Details

Created by Victor Alexander in 2018, the program serves as a bridge between studio training and a professional dance career. Dancers train and rehearse daily throughout the school year focusing on refining ballet and contemporary technique in an international environment of performers, educators, and mentors. This program is designed for dancers between the ages of 17-25 who have completed high school and are preparing for a professional career.

Axé Chicago is a vibrant performance troupe that showcases the dynamic arts of Capoeira, Rio-style Samba, and traditional dances from Brazil’s Northeast, like Maracatu and Coco de Roda. Their high-energy performances combine martial arts, acrobatics, and live music, accompanied by handmade costumes that honor the cultural roots of each dance. Led by skilled practitioners, the group creates an immersive experience, blending movement, rhythm, and the rich traditions of Brazil.

For 25 years, Latin Street Dancing has been the premier Latin dance studio and entertainment company in Chicago. Latin Street has cultivated long-standing relationships with some of the industry’s most renowned Latin artists, world-champion dancers, Grammy-nominated producers and musicians, passionate instructors, and DJs allowing them to provide exceptional entertainment for various occasions:

Melao's Salsa Team: Infusing Salsa with a powerful Chicago twist, this talented team dedicates their Sundays to training at Latin Street Music & Dancing Studio.Since their establishment in 2017, they’ve showcased their artistry at Congresses and festivals across Chicago, Canada, and various cities in the US.

Salsa Casino Team: The Latin Street Salsa Casino Team performs Cuban Style Rhythms, including Rueda De Casino. Directed by National School of Havana graduate Edson "De Cuba" Cabrera, the team takes you back to the origins of Afro-Cuban dancing.

Bachata Sensual Team: Established in 2024, The Bachata Sensual Team specializes in the newest Bachata style popularized in Spain. Bachata Sensual has taken Europe by storm and it is growing rapidly in the U.S.

Melao's Jr Team: Directed by Mia Ines Meneses, the Melao' Junior Team has already performed at The International Chicago Salsa Congress and Chicago Salsa Bachata Festival for the past two years in a row.

Colectivo Sayba is primarily an ensemble of art practitioners focusing on collaborative multidisciplinary performance and educational practices that are centered on Puerto Rico’s Bomba tradition, preservation, and education. Bomba is known as Puerto Rico’s oldest musical genre and one of the greatest cultural expressions of the island’s Caribbean/African ancestry. The execution of bomba ensembles includes percussive instrumentation, rhythmic dancing, and storytelling through songs that repurpose the emotions of happiness, loss/grief, conflict, and also shared histories of a region, its people, and particular places. Colectivo Sayba has been independently housed at El Schomburg/Espacio de Arte Contemporáneo since July of 2023.

Cerqua Rivera inhabits a unique niche in Chicago–intentionally multicultural, unapologetically expressive of timely and specific narratives, focused on impacting our community through high quality art. Every piece they make is centered on a personally and culturally specific narrative, seeing the value and imperative of diversity in staying true to those narratives. The company’s artistic director, Wilfredo Rivera, dancers and choreographers see society not as a melting pot but a healthy forest.

The Pachacamak Foundation was created to honor the Andean Kichwa indigenous traditions. Its mission is to promote economic development, environmental sustainability, and the empowerment of women and children through Indigenous art.

Anawi is a Kichwa dance group dedicated to passing down Kichwa ancestral and contemporary dance movements and rhythms to the youth within the Kichwa community in Chicago. Anawi plays a central role in significant Kichwa celebrations, such as Inti Raymi (the solstice celebration), representing a vital element of Kichwa identity and community cohesion.

Sisarina, a youth traditional Kichwa Ecuadorian dance group based in Chicago, aims to share Kichwa Ecuadorian culture with the world. They emphasize that the younger generation carries their traditions and identity with them, even when raised away from their homeland.

Together, these three entities work to ensure that Kichwa culture remains vibrant and celebrated, connecting communities through the power of dance and cultural expression.

Founded in 1976 by Dame Libby Komaiko, the Ensemble Español Spanish Dance Theater is the premier Spanish Dance Company and Center in the United States in-residence at Northeastern Illinois University’s Department of Music and Dance. The company’s mission is the preservation, presentation and promotion of the Flamenco, Folkloric, Classical, Escuela Bolera and Contemporary Dance and Music traditions of Spain.
