About the Artists

Crema Paraíso

For the past 15 years, Los Crema Paraíso has been at the forefront of redefining Venezuelan joropo music through their innovative interpretation as a power rock trio, often termed “Neofolklore.” Named after a beloved Caracas ice cream parlor, this Venezuelan power trio is made up of Neil Ochoa (Si Se, Chicha Libre), José Luis Pardo (Los Amigos Invisibles), and Álvaro Benavides (Pedrito Martinez Group). Founded in 2009 by established Venezuelan musicians in New York, the project evolved into a rich tapestry of sounds, textures, and captivating guitar melodies interwoven with polyrhythmic drums and robust bass lines. The trio takes Venezuelan traditional music as its foundation, but infuses it with rock, funk, Latin grooves, jazz and Exotica—creating what has been described as “High Speed Bossa Nova.”

Dos Santos

Dos Santos is a dynamic quintet from Chicago, renowned for their versatility in both progressive and experimental cumbia. Hailed as one of Chicago’s most impactful marquee performers, the band debuted in May 2013 and has since established themselves as equally at home at summer street festivals in the Latinx culture hub of Pilsen as they are at extended improvisational sets on jazz-centric cabaret stages. Led by Alex Chavez (vocals, guitar, keys, percussion), the group’s five members bring storied careers spanning jazz, R&B/soul, traditional Mexican folk, punk, cumbia, and salsa. Their music creates a fascinating blend of cabaret, cumbia, jazz, and Latinx punk, with cinematic albums like “City of Mirrors” and “Logos” reflecting sounds from across the Americas combined with compelling poetic narratives that speak to the Latinx diaspora experience.
