About the Film

In director Eliana Niño’s poignant and charming feature debut, Semillas (Seeds) follows Shaira, a girl from Colombia’s eastern plains who dreams of competing in a coleo festival — an event similar to a rodeo. But after a severe drought devastates the local crops, Shaira’s grandfather quietly sells her horse without telling her. One day, he explains that clouds take the shape of animals because the sky traps them, refusing to let go until the rains return. Determined, Shaira sets off on a journey to find a special seed that will bring the rains back — and her horse along with them.
The film is presented in Spanish with English subtitles.
Note: Semillas was originally scheduled to screen in 2025 but was rained out — tonight’s showing is a welcome return engagement!
